A Gift from the Townes Family

This 3‑room house was donated by Ruth and James Townes from the Palo Alto Plantation at Minter City.

Like so many of the flats at Tallahatchie Flats, Palo Alto represents a piece of Delta history saved from destruction. The Townes family's generosity ensured that this house, and the stories it holds, would be preserved for future generations.

Today, Palo Alto stands as a tribute to the families who lived and worked on the plantations of the Mississippi Delta, and to the vision of those who saw value in saving these historic structures.
